HN+R_EU_AU_P1001 is the final European firmware release for compatible Audi MMI 3G Plus systems from the HN+R_EU_AU software branch.

This firmware family is used primarily in selected European Audi A6, A7, A8 and Q3 vehicles equipped with MMI 3G Plus. Compatibility must always be confirmed from the complete installed software version rather than the vehicle model alone.

This product contains firmware only. Navigation maps, map activation and Apple CarPlay or Android Auto hardware are not included.

The package is intended for compatible systems whose current software version begins with:

HN+R_EU_AU_

Do not install it on systems beginning with HN+EU_AU3G, HNav_, BNav_, RMC_, MHI2_, MHS2_ or another firmware family.

HN+R and HN+ are not the same firmware branch

The distinction between HN+R and HN+ is important.

HN+R firmware is normally used in:

• Audi A6, S6 and RS6 C7
• Audi A7, S7 and RS7 4G
• Audi A8 and S8 D4
• Audi Q3 and RS Q3 8U

HN+ firmware without the letter R is generally used in other MMI 3G Plus applications, including selected Audi A4, A5, Q5 and Q7 vehicles.

Some early vehicles can require individual verification. Always provide the complete installed software version with your order.

How to check compatibility

Open the MMI version information screen or Red Engineering Menu and read the complete software version shown on the first line.

A compatible version should begin with:

HN+R_EU_AU_

Examples of older versions from the same general branch may end in designations such as P0532, P0770, P0783 or another earlier software number. The complete version must still be checked before installation.

Intermediate firmware versions

Most compatible HN+R systems can be updated using the standard installation path described in the included instructions. In some cases, an older unit may require HN+R_EU_AU_K0942_4 as an intermediate firmware version before installing P1001.

If this intermediate version is required for your system, we will provide it free of charge with your P1001 order. You do not need to purchase K0942_4 separately.

Why install P1001?

P1001 brings a compatible European HN+R system to the final official firmware level available for this branch.

A firmware update may be needed when:

• the MMI is running an older HN+R_EU_AU version;
• the firmware must be updated before installing the final compatible navigation database;
• you want to bring the system to its final supported software level;
• an installation procedure specifically requires P1001.

Firmware updates cannot guarantee the repair of hardware faults, damaged control modules, fibre-optic communication failures or unavailable external Audi services.

Firmware, maps or complete bundle?

Choose this product if you need the HN+R_EU_AU_P1001 firmware only.

If P1001 is already installed and you only require navigation data, select the Audi MMI 3G Plus Europe 6.36.0 map update.

If both the firmware and navigation maps are outdated, the complete HN+R P1001 and Europe 6.36.0 bundle is the better option.

Installation

The firmware is installed from an SD card through the Red Engineering Menu.

Keep the vehicle connected to a stable power supply throughout the process. Do not remove the SD card, switch off the MMI or interrupt the installation.

The MMI may restart several times. This is a normal part of the firmware update.

BOSE precautions

Vehicles equipped with BOSE require additional attention during component selection.

Read the audio-system section of the installation guide before starting. If required, exclude the amplifier component from the update using User Defined mode. Incorrect component selection can result in lost amplifier coding or audio-system problems.

Do not begin the update until you understand the correct procedure for your installed sound system.

Maps are not included

P1001 updates the MMI firmware but does not install a newer navigation database.

The final compatible European navigation release available separately is:

Map installation and activation are separate processes from the firmware update.

Audi Connect and Google Earth

Installing P1001 does not restore discontinued Audi Connect or Google Earth services.

The availability of online services depends on Audi’s servers, the vehicle’s communication hardware, mobile network support, an active subscription and regional service availability. Firmware alone cannot reactivate a service that Audi or an external provider no longer supports.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

HN+R MMI 3G Plus does not gain factory Apple CarPlay or Android Auto through a firmware update.

Adding smartphone integration requires an external interface. If this is your goal, check the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto module for Audi MMI 3G.
