Audi Android Auto for MMI 2G, MMI 3G & MIB2

Android Auto solutions for Audi

Add Android Auto to a Compatible Audi MMI System

Choose a software activation, external integration module or wired-to-wireless adapter according to the MMI system installed in your Audi. Available solutions cover selected MMI 2G High, MMI 3G, MMI 3G Plus and MIB2 systems.

MIB2 software activation

For supported MHI2 and MHI2Q firmware versions with compatible Audi Smartphone Interface hardware.

MMI 2G and MMI 3G modules

External hardware adds Android Auto while retaining the original Audi display, controls and factory MMI functions.

Wired-to-wireless adapter

Makes an already active factory wired Android Auto connection wireless. It does not activate Android Auto in an unsupported car.

Check your MMI before ordering: these products are not interchangeable. Identify the installed system and software train using our Audi MMI identification guide.

Which Audi Android Auto solution do you need?

The correct option depends on whether Android Auto is already active, whether the factory MIB2 unit supports software activation, or whether the vehicle requires an external integration module.

Already have wired Android Auto?

The Audi Wired-to-Wireless Adapter 5.0 converts an existing factory wired connection into a wireless one. It requires Android Auto or Apple CarPlay to be active before installation.

Compatible MHI2 or MHI2Q system

This activation package enables Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a lifetime map licence on the specifically listed MHI2 and MHI2Q firmware versions. The vehicle must have two suitable USB ports. Delivery is available as a download or prepared SD card.

Audi A6 or A7 with MHI2_ER_AU57x

The K3663_1 package combines the firmware update with built-in Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and lifetime map licensing. It is already patched and does not require a separate activation patch. Two compatible USB ports are required.

Audi with MMI 3G or MMI 3G Plus

The external wireless module adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to compatible older Audi models while retaining the original MMI display and controls. This is a hardware retrofit, not a firmware patch.

Audi with MMI 2G High

A dedicated external module adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to compatible MMI 2G High vehicles. A CD changer is not required, but the module must be connected to the optical MOST network and power supply using the appropriate splitters.

Software activation or external module?

Choose software activation only when the vehicle has a supported MHI2 or MHI2Q firmware version and compatible USB hardware.

Choose an external module for compatible MMI 2G High, MMI 3G or MMI 3G Plus systems that cannot gain native Android Auto through a software patch.

Choose the wireless adapter only if factory wired Android Auto already works in the vehicle.

Frequently asked questions

Can Android Auto be activated on every Audi MMI system?

No. Native software activation is limited to supported MHI2 and MHI2Q systems. Older MMI 2G and MMI 3G vehicles normally require a compatible external module.

Does the wireless adapter add Android Auto to a car that does not have it?

No. The adapter only makes an already active factory wired Android Auto or Apple CarPlay connection wireless.

Does MIB2 activation require two USB ports?

Yes. The supported MIB2 activation solutions require the appropriate two-port USB hardware for smartphone integration.

Will an external module replace the original Audi MMI interface?

No. A compatible integration module adds Android Auto and Apple CarPlay while allowing the driver to switch back to the original factory MMI functions.
