What This Guide Covers
This guide explains how to prepare update media for Audi MMI 2G High.
It is intended specifically for MMI 2G High and should not be used for MMI 3G, RMC, MIB1, MIB2, MH2p or MIB3 systems.
MMI 2G High uses optical update media rather than the SD card or USB-based update procedures used by many later Audi infotainment systems.
If you are not sure whether your Audi has MMI 2G High, identify the system before preparing any discs.
What You Need
Before starting, prepare:
- the correct MMI 2G High firmware or navigation files
- 7-Zip for extracting downloaded archives
- suitable optical media
- a reliable CD/DVD writer
- ISO burning software such as CDBurnerXP
- a Windows computer
Do not simply copy the ISO file onto a blank disc as a normal file.
The ISO must be written using the software’s “burn image” or equivalent function so that the correct disc structure is created.
Step 1 – Extract the Downloaded Files
If the update was downloaded as a compressed archive, extract it before preparing the disc.
We recommend 7-Zip.
If the download consists of multiple archive parts, keep all parts in the same folder and start extraction from the first archive part.
Do not rename, modify or manually combine files unless the supplied instructions specifically require it.
After extraction, check whether the package contains an ISO image or another ready-to-burn disc image.

Step 2 – Burn the ISO Image
Open your disc-burning software and choose the option for burning an ISO image.
Do not choose:
Create data disc
Copy files to disc
Create music CD
Instead, select the option similar to:
Burn ISO image
Burn image to disc
Write image file
Select the correct MMI 2G High ISO file and start the burning process.
Use a Reliable Burn Speed
Avoid using an unnecessarily high recording speed.
Older automotive optical drives can be more sensitive to poorly written discs than modern computer drives.
If your burning software and media allow it, use a moderate supported write speed rather than automatically choosing the maximum possible speed.
Step 3 – Verify the Disc
If your burning software offers a verification option, enable it.
After the disc has been written:
- Remove it from the computer.
- Insert it again.
- Confirm that Windows can read the disc.
- Check that the expected update files are visible.
Do not begin an MMI update with a disc that:
- cannot be read reliably
- contains only the original ISO file
- shows write errors
- was interrupted while burning

Firmware Discs and Navigation Media Are Not the Same Update
MMI 2G High firmware and navigation data are separate.
Firmware:
→ updates the infotainment software
Navigation media:
→ contains the navigation database
Preparing the media may involve a similar optical-disc workflow, but installing firmware and installing navigation data are separate procedures.
Do not mix firmware files and navigation files on the same disc.
