The Hidden Green Menu (also known as the Engineering Menu or Developer Mode) is a powerful diagnostic interface in Audi vehicles equipped with the MMI MIB2 system. Accessing this menu allows enthusiasts and technicians to view advanced system information, perform internal logs, and change hidden configurations.
In this guide, we will walk you through the process of unlocking this menu using the two most popular diagnostic tools: VCDS and OBDeleven.

⚠️ Disclaimer & Safety Warning
The Hidden Green Menu contains professional-level settings. Changing parameters without proper knowledge can permanently damage (brick) your MMI head unit. Proceed with caution and at your own risk. MMIUpdates.com is not responsible for any damage caused by improper use of these tools.
Prerequisites
Before starting, ensure your Audi is equipped with the MIB2 system (typically found in models from 2015–2020, such as the A3 8V, A4 B9, A6 C7 Facelift, Q5 FY, and Q7 4M).
- A stable power supply: Ensure your battery is charged or the engine is running.
- Diagnostic Interface: An authentic VCDS cable (Ross-Tech) or a registered OBDeleven device.
Method 1: Enabling Green Menu via VCDS
VCDS is the gold standard for VW/Audi group diagnostics. Follow these steps to activate the Developer Mode:
- Connect your VCDS cable to the OBD-II port and turn the ignition ON.
- Open the VCDS software on your laptop.
- Click on Select under “Select Control Module”.
- Go to 5F – Information Electr.
- On the right side, click on Adaptation – 10.
- In the “Search” or “Channel” box, look for: IDE02122-Developer mode.
- Under “New Value”, select Activated from the drop-down menu.
- Click Do It! and confirm the change.
- Restart the MMI: Perform a “Three-Finger Reset” (reboot) of the MMI system to apply changes.
Method 2: Enabling Green Menu (Developer Mode) via OBDeleven
OBDeleven is a more mobile-friendly option. There are two ways to do this: the “One-Click App” (requires credits) or the manual Adaptation (free).
Option A: Manual Adaptation (Recommended)
- Plug the OBDeleven dongle into the car and connect via the app.
- Go to the Control Units list and select 5F (Information Electronics).
- Select Adaptation.
- Use the search bar to find Developer mode.
- Change the value from Off to On.
- Press and hold the green checkmark to save.
- Perform a hard reset of the MMI.
Option B: One-Click App
- Open the OBDeleven app and go to the Apps section.
- Search for Green Menu or Developer Mode.
- Select “Activate” and hold the button. This will consume a small amount of credits.
How to Access the Hidden Green Menu (Button Combination)
Once the menu is enabled via software, you must use a specific hardware button combination to enter it. For the MIB2 system, the combination is usually:
- Turn the MMI ON.
- Simultaneously press and hold the NAV/MAP (pushed up) and MEDIA (pushed down) buttons.
- Hold them for about 5–10 seconds. The screen will flicker and the Green Menu will appear.
Note: On some models, the combination might be BACK + UPPER LEFT SOFT KEY.

Common MIB2 Green Menu Features
- WLAN Settings: Configure internal Wi-Fi parameters.
- System Info: Check precise firmware versions and hardware revisions.
- Logging: View error logs for GPS, Bluetooth, and optical bus (MOST) systems.
- SWDL (Software Download): Used by advanced users to force firmware updates or “User Defined” updates.
