Audi A4 MMI Updates – Firmware, Maps & CarPlay Guide for Europe, USA/Canada and ROW

Last updated: August 2026

If you own an Audi A4 and are looking for the correct MMI firmware, navigation maps or Apple CarPlay / Android Auto upgrade, the first thing you need to know is that there is no single “Audi A4 MMI update”.

Depending on the generation, production year, factory equipment and market, the Audi A4 was fitted with several completely different infotainment systems.

Over the years we have seen A4 models equipped with MMI 2G High, MMI 3G Basic, MMI 3G High, MMI 3G Plus, MHS2, MIB2 High and MIB3. On top of that, the firmware and navigation databases are region-specific.

That means an Audi A4 from Europe may require completely different files from an apparently identical A4 sold in the United States, Canada, Australia or the Middle East.

This page brings the available Audi A4 MMI firmware and navigation updates together in one place, separated by MMI generation and region.

Before updating your Audi A4 – check your MMI version

Do not select an update based only on the model year.

Two Audi A4s manufactured in the same year can have different multimedia units, especially around generation and equipment changes.

The safest way to identify the system is to check the full software or train version displayed by the MMI.

Depending on the system, you may see a version beginning with:

  • BNav_ – MMI 3G Basic
  • HNav_ – MMI 3G High
  • HN+_ – MMI 3G Plus
  • MHS2_ – MIB2 Scale / MHS2
  • MHI2_ – MIB2 High
  • MHI2Q_ – newer MIB2 High variant
  • MHI3_ – MIB3

We have prepared a separate step-by-step guide explaining where to find this information:

How to check what Audi MMI you have – MMI 2G, 3G, 3G Plus, MIB2 and other systems

Always write down the complete software version, not just the first few characters.

For example:

MHI2_ER_AUG22_P1234

contains considerably more useful information than simply telling us that the car has “MIB2”.

The region is equally important. European, North American and Rest of World software should not be mixed unless you are intentionally performing a supported region conversion.

Audi A4 MMI updates – Europe

European Audi A4 models use several different generations of MMI. Below you can find the firmware, navigation maps and complete update packages available for each system.

Audi A4 MMI 2G High – Europe

MMI 2G High can still be found in older Audi models and remains a perfectly usable system when updated correctly.

Firmware

The available European firmware is:

H2_HI_EU_K942 / version 5570

Download Audi MMI 2G High H2_HI_EU_K942 5570 firmware

Navigation maps

For the navigation database:

MMI 2G uses a completely different update procedure from newer MMI 3G and MIB systems, so do not use instructions intended for SD-card-based MMI 3G updates.

Audi A4 MMI 3G Basic – Europe

MMI 3G Basic is normally identified by a software version beginning with:

BNav_EU_

Firmware

The European firmware package is:

BNav_EU_K0260_1_D1

Audi MMI 3G Basic BNav_EU_K0260_1_D1 firmware

Navigation maps

The European navigation database available for MMI 3G Basic is:

5.36.1 – 4G0060884AN

Audi MMI 3G Basic Europe maps 5.36.1

Complete bundle

If the car is still running older firmware, purchasing the complete package is usually easier than installing individual components separately.

The bundle contains the firmware, navigation data and Green Menu activation solution:

Audi A4 MMI 3G High – Europe

MMI 3G High systems normally show a software train beginning with:

HNav_EU_

Do not confuse HNav with HN+. They are different systems and require different firmware.

Firmware

The European Audi A4 MMI 3G High firmware is:

HNav_EU_K0257_6_D1

Audi MMI 3G High HNav_EU_K0257_6_D1 firmware

This is often the easiest option for cars which have not been updated for many years.

Audi A4 MMI 3G Plus – Europe

MMI 3G Plus used in the Audi A4 normally has a version beginning with:

HN+_EU_AU3G_

Firmware

The European firmware is:

HN+_EU_AU3G_K0942

Audi MMI 3G Plus HN+ K0942 Europe firmware

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for Audi A4 MMI 3G

The factory MMI 3G Basic, MMI 3G High and MMI 3G Plus systems do not support native modern CarPlay or Android Auto activation in the same way as MIB2.

However, you do not have to replace the entire MMI.

An additional interface can add wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto while keeping the original Audi display and controls:

Wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto interface for Audi MMI 3G

This is particularly useful for older A4 B8 and B8.5 models because you can continue using the original MMI while gaining access to Google Maps, Waze, Spotify and other supported smartphone applications.

Audi A4 MHS2 – Europe

Some Audi A4 B9 models are equipped with the MHS2 system.

The software version should begin with:

MHS2_

Firmware

Available firmware:

MHS2_ER_AU_P2035 / MU0235

Audi MHS2 Europe P2035 firmware

Navigation maps

European MHS2 navigation database:

P350_N60MIBSCALE1 ECE 2024

Audi MHS2 Europe 2024 map update P350

Complete MHS2 package

A complete firmware and navigation package is also available:

Audi MHS2 P2035 firmware and Europe maps bundle

MHS2 and MHI2 may both be casually described as “MIB2”, but they are not interchangeable. Always check the complete software version before ordering files.

Audi A4 MIB2 High – Europe

MIB2 High is one of the most interesting Audi A4 platforms because it can support modern smartphone integration as well as newer navigation databases.

The unit will normally have firmware beginning with either:

MHI2_ER_AUG22_

or

MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_

The distinction between MHI2 and MHI2Q is important.

MHI2 firmware

For MHI2 units:

MHI2_ER_AUG22_K3346 / MU1438

Audi A4 MHI2_ER_AUG22_K3346 firmware

MHI2Q firmware

If your version begins with MHI2Q instead:

MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_P5092

Audi MHI2Q_ER_AUG22_P5092 firmware

Never install an MHI2 firmware package simply because your car has “MIB2” if the actual unit is MHI2Q.

Audi A4 MIB2 Europe 2027 maps

The current European MIB2 High navigation package is:

P470_N60S5MIBH3_EU – Europe 2027

Audi MIB2 High Europe 2027 P470 map update

The P470 package is intended for compatible MHI2 and MHI2Q MIB2 High systems.

Important – MIB2 maps require a valid map license

Unlike the older MMI 3G systems, copying the newest MIB2 navigation files onto an SD card is not enough.

The unit must have the appropriate map entitlement / lifetime map license or be correctly patched before unsupported newer map databases can be activated.

If your MIB2 has not previously been patched, use:

MIB2 CarPlay / Android Auto activation script and lifetime map license

The patch can provide:

  • Apple CarPlay activation
  • Android Auto activation
  • lifetime navigation map license
  • support for newer offline map installations

Compatibility still depends on the exact firmware version, so verify the full software train before purchasing.

Wired vs wireless CarPlay on MIB2

The MIB2 activation enables the factory-style wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality on supported hardware.

If you already have wired CarPlay / Android Auto and want to use it wirelessly, there is no need to replace the entire infotainment unit.

You can add:

MIB2 wired-to-wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto extension kit

The result is a much more modern daily-use experience while retaining the original Audi MMI system.

Audi A4 MIB3 / MHI3 – Europe

Newer Audi A4 models can use the MIB3 platform.

This is where reading the complete firmware version becomes especially important.

MHI3_ER_AUG45S

If the software version contains:

MHI3_ER_AUG45S_

use the AUG45S firmware branch:

MHI3_ER_AUG45S_K3283

Audi MHI3_ER_AUG45S_K3283 firmware

MHI3_ER_AU

If the firmware does not contain AUG45S and instead belongs to the regular AU branch, the appropriate package may be:

MHI3_ER_AU_P4398

Audi MHI3_ER_AU_P4398 firmware

Do not choose between these packages based on the appearance of the screen or model year. Check the complete MHI3 software train first.

Audi A4 MMI updates – USA, Canada and Mexico

North American Audi A4 models use region-specific firmware and navigation databases.

A firmware beginning with _US_ should not normally be updated with European _ER_ or _EU_ software unless a proper region conversion is being performed.

Audi A4 MMI 3G High – USA / Canada / Mexico

Identify this system by a software version beginning with:

HNav_US_

Firmware

HNav_US_K0133_3_D1

Audi MMI 3G High HNav_US_K0133_3_D1 firmware

Navigation maps

North American navigation database:

Audi A4 MMI 3G Plus – USA / Canada / Mexico

The North American A4 MMI 3G Plus normally uses:

HN+_US_AU3G_

Firmware

HN+_US_AU3G_K0942_6

Audi MMI 3G Plus HN+ US K0942_6 firmware

Navigation maps

6.24.0 – 8R0060884JE

Owners of these older North American MMI 3G systems can also add wireless CarPlay and Android Auto using the external MMI interface mentioned earlier in this guide.

Audi A4 MHS2 – USA / Canada

For North American MHS2 units:

Firmware

MHS2_US_AU_P2037 / MU0185

Audi MHS2_US_AU_P2037 firmware

As always, confirm that the version currently installed in the vehicle actually begins with the correct MHS2 US software family.

Audi A4 MIB2 High – USA / Canada / Mexico

North American Audi A4 MIB2 High units may use either MHI2 or MHI2Q.

MHI2 firmware

MHI2_US_AUG22_K3347 / MU1439

Audi MHI2_US_AUG22_K3347 firmware

MHI2Q firmware

For MHI2Q:

MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P5087 / MU1316

Audi MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P5087 firmware

North America MIB2 maps

The map package is:

P376 N60S5MIBH3 – NAR 2024/25

Audi MIB2 USA / Canada / Mexico P376 2024/25 maps

Just like European MIB2, the unit requires the correct map license. If the required activation is missing, the MIB2 patch can be used:

MIB2 CarPlay / Android Auto activation and lifetime map license

The same activation solution can also enable wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on supported hardware.

For wireless operation afterwards:

MIB2 wired-to-wireless CarPlay / Android Auto adapter

Audi A4 MIB3 – USA / Canada

For North American Audi A4 models with the MHI3 AUG45S platform:

MHI3_US_AUG45S_K3281

Audi MHI3_US_AUG45S_K3281 firmware

Again, check the entire software train before installing MIB3 firmware.

Audi A4 MMI updates – Rest of World / ROW

ROW packages are intended for markets outside the standard Europe and North America distributions.

Depending on the package, this can include markets such as Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, Singapore and South Africa.

ROW should always be treated as a separate region.

Audi A4 MMI 3G High – ROW

For compatible MMI 3G High systems there is a complete firmware and navigation package:

Audi MMI 3G High ROW 5.13.4 bundle – Australia, New Zealand, Middle East, Singapore and South Africa

Audi A4 MMI 3G Plus – ROW

For compatible HN+ MMI 3G Plus units:

Audi MMI 3G Plus ROW 5.13.4 bundle – Australia, New Zealand, Middle East, Singapore and South Africa

Do not install European 6.36.0 maps into a ROW unit simply because both vehicles use MMI 3G Plus. Region compatibility matters.

Audi A4 MIB2 High – ROW 2026 maps

For compatible ROW MIB2 High systems, the navigation package is:

V03.959.822.HM 433 ROW 2026

Audi MIB2 ROW 2026 map update V03.959.822.HM 433

A valid regional navigation license is required.

If the vehicle does not already have the required map entitlement, the MIB2 activation script can be prepared for a compatible ROW unit.

MIB2 CarPlay / Android Auto activation and lifetime map license

When ordering a patch for a ROW vehicle, make sure the exact region and complete firmware version are provided.

Firmware update, map update or bundle – which should you choose?

This is one of the most common questions we receive.

There is no reason to install every available file just because a newer version exists.

Choose a firmware update when:

  • your MMI is running an older software version;
  • newer maps require a newer firmware baseline;
  • you need firmware containing compatibility or stability improvements;
  • you need to move to a supported firmware before performing another activation.

Choose a map update when:

  • your firmware is already suitable;
  • the navigation database is outdated;
  • the required map activation or license is already present.

Choose a bundle when:

  • the system has not been updated for a long time;
  • both firmware and navigation data are outdated;
  • you want all required files prepared as one update package;
  • you have MMI 3G and want to avoid buying firmware, maps and activation components separately.

For older MMI 3G systems, the complete bundle is often the most straightforward solution.

Important MIB2 difference – maps and firmware are separate from activation

This causes quite a lot of confusion.

Updating your MIB2 firmware does not automatically mean that all future navigation maps become licensed.

There are three separate elements:

  1. MMI firmware
  2. navigation database
  3. navigation license / patch

A car can therefore be running the correct firmware and still refuse to activate a newer navigation database.

This is why we recommend checking the existing license status before purchasing an MIB2 map update.

The MIB2 activation solution can provide the lifetime map license while also enabling Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on compatible units.

Common Audi A4 MMI update mistakes

1. Choosing an update by model year

“Audi A4 2016” is not enough information.

Always provide the software version.

2. Confusing MMI 3G High with MMI 3G Plus

HNav_ and HN+_ are not the same system.

Their firmware packages are different.

3. Treating every MIB2 unit as the same

MHS2, MHI2 and MHI2Q all belong to the wider MIB family, but they use different firmware and update procedures.

4. Mixing regions

ER, EU, US and ROW software should not be mixed without a proper conversion procedure.

Installing firmware from the wrong region can create considerably more work than simply updating an old navigation database.

5. Ignoring the MIB2 map license

A map package alone will not solve a missing FEC / map entitlement.

Check the license before starting the installation.

6. Installing the wrong MIB3 firmware branch

With MHI3, details such as AUG45S matter.

Do not shorten the software version when checking compatibility.

7. Interrupting an update

Firmware updates should be performed with a stable electrical supply.

Do not remove the SD card, USB drive or switch off the vehicle while an update is being installed.

Can an older Audi A4 get Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?

Yes, but the solution depends on the MMI system.

MMI 3G Basic / High / Plus

Use an external CarPlay / Android Auto interface:

Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto for Audi MMI 3G

MIB2 High – MHI2 / MHI2Q

Compatible units can use the software activation:

MIB2 CarPlay / Android Auto activation script

This provides wired smartphone integration on compatible factory hardware and can simultaneously add a lifetime navigation map license.

To convert the factory wired connection to wireless:

MIB2 wireless CarPlay / Android Auto extension

Audi A4 MMI update FAQ

How do I know which MMI is installed in my Audi A4?

Open the version information screen and check the complete software version. Prefixes such as BNav, HNav, HN+, MHS2, MHI2, MHI2Q and MHI3 identify the MMI family.

Use our detailed guide if you are unsure:

How to check which Audi MMI system you have

Can I install the newest Audi A4 maps without updating the firmware?

Sometimes.

It depends on the MMI generation and the firmware currently installed. Some older systems may require a firmware update before the newest compatible navigation database can be installed.

Can I install European maps on a US Audi A4?

Not as a normal map update.

European and North American systems use different firmware, navigation databases and activation parameters. A proper US-to-EU conversion is a separate procedure.

Are MHI2 and MHI2Q the same?

No.

They are closely related MIB2 High platforms, but they have different firmware packages. Always match the firmware to the complete train version displayed by the car.

Does the MIB2 patch enable CarPlay?

On supported MHI2 and MHI2Q systems, the activation can enable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto together with the lifetime navigation map license.

Does the MIB2 patch make CarPlay wireless?

No.

The software activation enables the supported factory wired functionality. A separate wired-to-wireless adapter can then be used if you want wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.

Can MMI 3G get CarPlay?

Yes.

MMI 3G Basic, High and Plus can use an external interface which integrates CarPlay and Android Auto with the original Audi display and MMI controls.

Which information should I provide if I am not sure which update I need?

Send us:

  • Audi model
  • production year
  • country / region
  • complete MMI software version
  • current navigation database version

A photo of the version information screen is also very useful.

Which Audi A4 update do I need?

If you remember only one thing from this guide, make it this:

Choose the update by the MMI software version, not by the Audi A4 model year.

The A4 has been produced with several generations of infotainment hardware and each generation uses its own firmware, maps and activation system.

Once you know whether your car has BNav, HNav, HN+, MHS2, MHI2, MHI2Q or MHI3 – and whether the vehicle is European, North American or ROW – selecting the correct update becomes much easier.

If you are still unsure, contact MMIUpdates.com before ordering and send us the complete software and navigation version shown in your vehicle. We can then check which firmware, maps or activation package is appropriate for your Audi A4.
